Buffalo Jump Sinkhole

buffalojumpsinkhole.jpg

Between 1500 to 1800 or so, Native Americans periodically drove herds of buffalo over the edge of this sinkhole, (a "Buffalo Jump") where they would finish them off and butcher them for meat and hides. Having no horses, this was the most practical way to slaughter large enough numbers of buffalo to survive the winter. This building shelters an archeological dig of the site.
